The Association of Spouses of Heads
of Missions and International Organisations (ASOHOM) has held its Diplomatic
Charity Gala in Accra, using art, music and philanthropy to promote water
conservation and sustainable development.
Held on October 2, 2026, at the
Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City, the event, themed “Woven Currents,” brought
together members of the diplomatic community, international organisations,
corporate partners, artists and other distinguished guests for an evening of
culture, entertainment and charitable fundraising.
The gala highlighted the importance
of water as a vital resource for human survival and the need for collective
action to protect Ghana’s water bodies for future generations.
A major attraction of the evening
was the exhibition of contemporary Ghanaian artworks inspired by the
relationship between water, life and the environment.
The exhibition demonstrated the
ability of art to communicate important environmental messages, encourage
dialogue and inspire people to take responsibility for protecting the planet.
Classical music adds elegance to
gala
Guests were also treated to a
showcase of classical music, with an orchestra featuring violin performances
that added an elegant touch to the evening.
One of the musical highlights was a
rendition of “Adiós,” which captivated guests and complemented the artistic
atmosphere of the occasion.
The performance formed part of a
wider programme that combined music, visual arts and live entertainment to
create an engaging experience for the diplomatic and business communities.
The evening also featured
performances by Ankio, a quintet, and a string quartet, alongside a photo booth
showcasing artists’ works.
Art and philanthropy for a common
cause
Beyond the entertainment, the gala
served as a platform to raise funds for charitable initiatives and strengthen
partnerships between the diplomatic community and organisations working to
improve lives in Ghana.
The programme included an art
auction, raffle draws, dinner and networking opportunities, with sponsors and
supporters contributing to the fundraising effort.
In a welcome message published in
the event brochure, the President of ASOHOM, Mrs Sovanna Taliercio, described
the occasion as a celebration of more than art and culture, emphasising its
role in bringing people from diverse backgrounds together around a shared
purpose.
She said the Woven Currents
exhibition encouraged guests to reflect on the vital role water plays in
sustaining life and their collective responsibility to protect the resource for
generations to come.
Mrs Taliercio, who is also the
spouse of the Division Director of the World Bank and chairperson of the ASOHOM
Fundraising Committee, expressed gratitude to sponsors, partners, participating
artists and the fundraising committee for their support.
She also thanked guests for
embracing the association’s vision of compassion, generosity and positive
change.
According to her, the collaboration
demonstrated what could be achieved when people unite behind a common
objective.
Promoting a sustainable future
The Woven Currents theme underscored
the connection between environmental sustainability, artistic expression and
collective responsibility.
Through the exhibition and
performances, the gala sought to encourage conversations about water
conservation while highlighting the contribution of Ghanaian artists to public
awareness of environmental issues.
The event also provided an
opportunity for members of the diplomatic community, businesses and creatives
to build relationships and explore ways to support charitable causes.
Mrs Taliercio expressed hope that
the evening would inspire meaningful conversations, foster new connections and
reinforce the importance of unity and collective action in building a brighter
and more sustainable future.
The Diplomatic Charity Gala forms
part of ASOHOM’s efforts to bring people together through cultural exchange,
fundraising and initiatives aimed at supporting communities in Ghana.
